FLY vs. SIDEWAYS DAYTONA ENDURO 2011

On Saturday 26th February the Phoenix Slot Car Group commenced 2011 with a Fly / Sideways Daytona Enduro and what a way to begin the year with 15 guys all competing for top spot and to be crowned the 'Daytona King'.

Commencing at 12.30pm and finishing at 8pm, the day kicked off with the preliminary events which consisted of 10 lap Trans Ams and 10 lap Modern Nascars races.

THE MAIN EVENT

The main event started at around 2pm with the starting grid consisting a mixture of both Fly and Sideways cars, with Fly seeming to be the preferred choice for many. ( Poor Bastards ! ). The task of scrutineer was left in Jurgens hands and after his 'screw check' and a few issues with cars not meeting the required weight ( including his own ), Jurgen gave the all clear.
Daytona Enduro 2011

From the get go, the racing was very close and somewhat carnage free, and apart from Ferret 'ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE' taking Greg out, ( You still owe me $5 Peter. LOL ), both Lloyd and Ferret ( Team FTG ) managed to stay in their own lanes. Apart from a few Fly cars stripping gears, a broken lead wire and Peters Shitter, all cars ran fairly smoothly and without any major incidents and breakdowns. Tyres seemed to be the main issue as the track looked like someone had sneezed rubber balls all everywhere.

At the end of the 3 heats the results were very close and the top 13 positions were only separated by 10 laps. With 15 guys, a variety of different liveries of cars, extremely close racing, great marshalling and a BBQ made for another very successful and enjoyable Phoenix event.

WELL DONE GUYS, AWESOME DAY. SEE YOU AT THE NEXT EVENT.

Special thanks to all the guys that helped run the day and cook the BBQ, it was very much appreciated.

P.s Welcome back Shane S who returned to the flock after a year or so of abstinence!
