PLAFIT 1:32 SCALE V8 SUPERCARS BATHURST 1000

On 9th October the Phoenix Club in Melbourne ran a Bathurst 1000 Enduro based on Scalextric V8's with Plafit chassis as running gear. standard chassis , with 10 tooth pinions. The rear tyres were foam and fronts were either foam or rubber as the newer chassis seem to have foam rears supplied and rubber fronts for some reason. We preferred to have the old ribbed rear wheels so we could run MJK's but could not not sure why Plafit would go down this path!!!!

The event got off to a good start when we ran a few heats of the muscle car masters then the Porsche cup. ( ran over 10 lap heats)

RACE ON

The main event was run over 4x 5 minute heats (run 3 times) which including meal breaks, took us from somewhere around 1pm to 6 .30 to complete. The racing was pretty smooth however, as the foam tyres gripped up on the Ferador surface, some cars would prove to be a handful.

Two of the racers Greg (caterpillar ford) and Peter (sprint gas commodore) got off to flyers and were approx 5-6 laps up on the field, however Mark ( Jeldwen ford)  staged a spirited fight back to move into second place going into the last round of heats. Greg however was still 3 laps up. As the afternoon wore on, the gremlins struck and it looked like fords unbeaten run in the Enduro's was about to end as Greg's gearbox was letting him down, as first Pete then Mark made a run at Greg's lead. Then there was an incident on pit straight which left Mark with repairs to go 5 laps down on the leaders again as Peter crept into the lead and maintained it until the end.

Overall the top 3 place getters were within 3 laps of each other and if not for the incident all three would have been within half a lap after 4-5 hours of racing. Unfortunately the ford was done and it was not a good omen for the real stuff the following day.

WELL DONE GUYS, AWESOME DAY AND FUN FOR ALL!
