LEMANS 24HR 2007

Well I'm sad to say that the Phoenix Slot Car Group Le Mans 24hr Event has been and gone, but what a fantastic night it was. The large turnout, close racing, Slot lotto and the BBQ made for fun night and I for one cannot wait until next year.

The website countdown hit zero and racing began at 4.00pm sharp and continued well after midnight. With the exception of a brief power failure and a bit of controversy at half time, concerning whether or not the leading car from Team 1.2 Watch had a legal pinion, the event went off without a hitch and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

HEEL OF THE WEEK AWARD

This prestigious award goes to Peter Allwood from Team JPS for his poor driving effort which as a result, ruined his partner John Davison's winning record. ( Sorry Peter ).

QUALIFYING

Qualifying took place over a few days, starting on Tuesday with Glen & Rob from Team Knackers setting a time of 6.775, with the second and third sessions taking place on Friday and Saturday.

The first team to qualify on Friday was Shane and Dave from Team DSR, setting a time of 6.48.

The next to qualify was Lloyd & Martin from Team L & M, which turned out to be rather amusing. Up until then, I didn't think that it was possible for a guy to turn white, grey, green and age ten years all at once, but somehow Lloyd managed to do so. The look on his face was absolutely priceless. Anyone would think that he was just given the news by his doctor that he was going to be the recipient of a Vasectomy with a rusty chainsaw.

In the end Team L&M managed to regain their composure and set a time of 6.56, which at the end of the day put them in 6th place.

Steve C from Team Pussie Power was up next, setting the track alight with a speedy time of 6.32, putting his team into 1st place.

After two years in the making and surrounded by secrecy, Team 1.2 Watch finally unveiled their secret weapon, which ended up blitzing the entire field, qualifying on Saturday with a time of 6.234, securing 1st place.

CASUALTIES

The only casualty of the night was Team Pussie Power who were forced to retire and leave early, after suffering from Fatigue, Slotters Elbow and a car that was self destructing.

SCRUTINEERING

The Le Mans event was over and all that remained was for the three place getters to pass the scrutineering stage, which was under the control of Greg Colgan and John Davison.

Having whipped out his Jewellers Magnifying glass, John Davidson deemed the following:

1/ All cars had legal 9 tooth pinions.
2/ His appraisal valued the cars at 9 carats and were of high quality.
